Why this Kolaveri Di?
Remember this song with its quirky lyrics, peppy tunes and raw voice?
The lyrics were a fusion of Tamil and English words strung together in ways that made no sense.
Yet, the song became a global sensation, being played in Turkey and Hong Kong!
Okay, why does this matter?
It proves that songs or lyrics don’t have to make ‘sense’ or be ‘understood’!
They just need to communicate the message clearly and touch the individuals.
So… you don’t have to be grammatically correct always.
Don’t stop expressing yourself just because you think your grammar is not good or you may make mistakes.
Especially if English is not your first language, grammar mistakes are okay as long as they do not distract the reader.
Almost all the best selling classics have typos too!
Focus on honing your art and improving your creativity.
There are many people out there with good grammar, but very few people who can write well.
P.S. If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it. Or, if proper usage gets in the way, it may have to go. I can’t allow what we learned in English composition to disrupt the sound and rhythm of the narrative. ~Elmore Leonard
