When Traditions Goes Digital

INR 801

These are some of the amounts paid for my ebook.

In India, it is considered auspicious to pay an amount that ends with 1.

Adding ₹1 makes the amount indivisible. So all the good luck and blessings remain indivisible.

That’s why the gifting envelopes too have a ₹1 coin on them.

I was surprised to see this tradition being followed for my ebook too!

Another interesting thing here:

If I had priced the ebook as per prevailing norms of “499″ and “799”, the readers may have skipped paying ₹1 extra to round it off.

Because (by luck) I priced my ebook at INR 500 (now INR 800),

I had the opportunity to witness an age-old tradition for a digital product!

The auspicious ₹1 was added voluntarily by the readers to a digital product!

Indeed, digital technology can be custodians of traditions!

Have you ever experienced such a tradition?

P.S. Without tradition, art is a flock of sheep without a shepherd. Without innovation, it is a corpse.
