Should you get paid less for your own byline?
This was an interesting discussion in the comment box of a post.
Someone said, “You may choose to have your own byline, but the client may pay less for it…”
I think that’s the wrong way to look at it.
YOU wrote the article.
It’s your content.
You must get credit for your content.
So, your byline is your obvious right.
But if a client wants to put their own byline instead of yours, they are taking credit for YOUR writing.
Which means: you get to charge the same fee, or more, for not only writing the article, but also giving away the credits.
So, if you have been getting paid less by clients for getting your byline, rethink your deals.
How do you charge for your byline?
