I resumed gym last week…
Before the lockdown, I had been working out consistently.
Last week, I resumed working out at the gym.
I knew I was going to struggle with lifting heavy weights and I was mentally prepared to start from scratch.
Then, I was surprised…
I was able to lift the weight just fine,
But I was unable to grip the dumbbells.
Gripping a light, 2kg dumbbell was also painful.
And managed to hit bare minimum reps.
It took me a few days, and my grip — the foundation of any workout — is now steadily improving.
This “grip” applies to everything.
Discontinuity or a long break takes us back to where we started.
posting on LinkedIn, etc.
We may still be really good at those things, but what we’ve lost is the grip.
To get the grip back, we need to resume the task itself.
We need to make it through the inertia & pain and be committed to the task.
How do you get your grip back?
P.S. I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.’
